The Bible discussion begins with a careful reading of the whole passage, either from your own Bibles, or from the provided images below.
Then participants are to ask:
When Jesus began teaching in the temple, the people were astonished. (Luke 2:46-47) They couldn’t understand how someone without formal schooling could speak with such wisdom. Jesus reminded them that truth isn’t confined to classrooms but flows from a heart that follows God. “Anyone who chooses to do the will of God,” He said, “will find out” if His words are from heaven (verse 17). Learning, in God’s kingdom, begins not with credentials but with a willing heart. We come to understand truth by walking in it, just as Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
Jesus reminded His listeners that those who speak only for themselves seek their own glory, but those who speak for God reflect His. The difference between pride and truth is motive. It’s like sunlight shining through a single, clean window, revealing its source. When our goal is to honor the One who sent us, our words and actions become genuine.
In a world that prizes expertise and knowledge, Jesus calls us to something deeper—to a kind of learning that moves beyond right answers to right living. Doing the will of God becomes the way of truly knowing Him (John 14:21; James 1:22).
A parting video clip with a personal invitation to apply the message to “knowing Christ” and “living in Christ” in the coming week.
