A video introduction using illustrations, personal stories, metaphors, or active learning examples to begin the discussion.
After the video, prompts are supplied for thinking and sharing with others personal perception and experience. This opening activity prompts participants to think about and relate to the topic, and to share with others.
We all face different types of decisions in life. These three road signs represent three kinds of choices or situations we experience. Use them to think, brainstorm, and share examples from real life decisions that are symbolized for each sign.
Roundabout (Many Options and Exits) here are several possible directions. You can go around, look, think, and choose when and where to exit.
Merge (Two Roads Become One) This is not really a choice. Two paths come together, and you must adjust. Life decides, and we respond.
Fork in the Road (Two-Way Choice) You must choose between two different paths. It’s an “either/or” decision.
The Bible discussion begins with a careful reading of the whole passage, either from your own Bibles, or from the provided images below.
Then participants are to ask:
In John 6, many stopped following Jesus because His words became hard to accept (verses 43–65). He called Himself the Bread of Life, asked for complete trust, and challenged their expectations of the Messiah. The same crowd that loved His miracles could not handle His message, so they walked away. Jesus didn’t chase after them or soften His words. Instead, He turned to the Twelve and asked, “Do you also want to leave?” It was a defining moment, like Joshua saying, “Choose this day whom you will serve” (Joshua 24:15), or Elijah declaring, “If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, then follow him” (1 Kings 18:21). Truth always brings us to a choice.
Peter’s answer was simple and honest: “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” Others left because the words were too hard; Peter stayed because those same words were life. His answer echoes Ruth choosing Naomi’s God over Moab (Ruth 1:16), while the rich young ruler walked away, unwilling to surrender (Matthew 19:21–22). Everyone must choose.
A parting video clip with a personal invitation to apply the message to “knowing Christ” and “living in Christ” in the coming week.
